Claude Desktop
Claude Desktop is Anthropic's officially supported desktop app — register MCP connectors from the left-sidebar Customize → Connectors menu in seconds. One URL is all you need.
Prerequisites
Make sure you have the latest Claude Desktop installed. (claude.ai/download) Works on every plan, including Free.
Already connected in Claude Web?
FindIP is a remote connector stored on your account, so signing in with the same account syncs it automatically between Claude Web and Claude Desktop. You don't need to re-enter the URL on Desktop — just confirm the OAuth sign-in and tool permissions once on the first call.
Setup steps
Open Customize → Connectors
In Claude Desktop's left sidebar, click Customize → in the second panel, choose Connectors.
Add custom connector
Click the + button at the top right of the connectors list → Add custom connector to open the registration dialog.
Enter the MCP URL
Name can be anything (e.g. FindIP); paste the following value into URL as-is.
Allow the tools
In the Add-custom-connector dialog, the tool-permission section on the right lists the FindIP tools — enable the ones you'll use (search, patent details, drawings, etc.) and set them to always allow so Claude won't ask each time.
Grant access
On the first call after saving, a browser popup appears. Sign in with your FindIP account and grant access — tokens are then issued and refreshed automatically.
Search from the chat
Type any natural-language patent question into Claude and the LLM will call the FindIP tools for you.
Sample prompt
Prompt
"Summarize the top 5 solid-electrolyte patents from leading Korean / US / Japanese applicants over the past 5 years that suppress lithium-dendrite growth in solid-state batteries — include claim summaries."
Troubleshooting
The permission popup doesn't appear.
Disable popup blockers or close incognito windows and retry. You can also delete the FindIP entry under Customize → Connectors and re-add it.
The tool isn't recognized.
Quit Claude Desktop completely (including the tray icon) and relaunch. On macOS use ⌘Q to terminate the background process.
Do I need an API key?
Not for normal usage — the browser OAuth flow handles it. You only need an API key when integrating into your own service.
